YEREVAN. – We demand that the EU countries react to the processes taking place in Armenia. Ani Hovhannisyan, a member of the opposition VETO movement said this Sunday outside the office of the EU delegation to the country, referring to today’s developments regarding opposition Prosperous Armenia Party leader, MP, and business tycoon Gagik Tsarukyan.

"Unprecedented repressions were carried out by the halls of power today, numerous citizens were apprehended, many of whom were not even explained why they were taken to various police stations; this is pressure on civil society.

At the moment, we have a de jure state of emergency, but de facto we have a situation where, apart from the ban on gatherings, nothing else is being done in Armenia to prevent the coronavirus. We demand that the EU countries react to the gross violations of human rights [in the country]," she added.

And Narek Samsonyan, another member of VETO, called on to hold decentralized demonstrations in front of the foreign embassies in Yerevan, and to raise the issue of human rights violations in Armenia.
