Political parties view some Armenian television channels as a propaganda tool. This is what Chairman of the National Commission on Television and Radio (NCTR) Tigran Hakobyan said during a discussion on the report on the activities of the NCTR for the year 2019.

Hakobyan stated that even though most television channels operate without commercial interest, there are some television channels that set the objective to have commercial interests. According to him, the only thing that those particular television channels can do is to either serve the interests of political parties or shut down.

Hakobyan also admitted that it is hard to state the real owners of television channels and that this is a common situation around the world and informed that the planned amendments to the law on audiovisual media will allow to tighten the requirements for content of television shows.
