YEREVAN. – We said in the parliament hall that there was not enough evidence that [opposition Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) leader, MP, and business tycoon] Gagik Tsarukyan be stripped of his [parliamentary] immunity. Edmon Marukyan, leader of the opposition Bright Armenia Party (BAP) and head of its parliamentary faction, stated this Monday during the traditional briefings in the National Assembly (NA).

"I also said that it is possible that the parliament will be disgraced because of the removal of the immunity; it happened yesterday. I am sure 87 people [MPs of the parliament majority My Step faction] have questions for their persuaders; but that's not our problem," he added.

Marukyan recall that they also stated in the NA that the criminal case related to Tsarukyan has political oversight.

As for whether they imagine any agenda with the PAP and Gagik Tsarukyan on a change of power in Armenia, Marukyan stated: "As long as 600 people [in the country] become infected every day due to the [COVID-19] pandemic, we have 10 or more actual deaths, we do not raise an issue of any resignation. But we have also said that after the end of the pandemic, or after the decline in numbers, we will raise the issue of political accountability."
