The processes surrounding Prosperous Armenia Party leader and head of the homonymous parliamentary faction Gagik Tsarukyan will unquestionably have an extremely negative impact on the investment climate in Armenia. This is what economist, former deputy of the Prosperous Armenia faction Vardan Bostanjyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Bostanjyan recommended that those who launched all the processes against Tsarukyan think about what Armenia’s incumbent authorities have done over the past 30 years and stated that their actions don’t even make up the smallest portion of what Tsarukyan has done for Armenia and its economy. “The processes against Tsarukyan dealt an irreparable blow to the country’s investment attractiveness,” he added.

On June 16, with 87 votes in favor, the Parliament of Armenia approved the petitions to strip Tsarukyan of his parliamentary immunity and deprive him of his liberty under the charge of electoral fraud during the 2017 parliamentary elections. However, on June 21, Judge Robert Papoyan of the first instance court denied the petition to detain the Prosperous Armenia Party leader, and the Prosecutor General’s Office announced its intention to appeal the decision.
