YEREVAN. – Gevorg Baghdasaryan, the prosecutor on the criminal case against second president Robert Kocharyan and several other former senior officials, insists on the constitutionality of Article 300.1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, he said that the Constitutional Court has no grounds to deem this article unconstitutional. "There is no basis to claim that the provisions of the article bear legal uncertainty," the prosecutor added.

Asked whether this situation is political, Baghdasaryan said that all he expects from the Constitutional Court as a lawyer is a professional approach. "In my opinion, the disputed norms correspond to the constitution," the prosecutor noted.

To note, the Constitutional Court on Monday decided to start on July 7, the consideration of ex-President Kocharyan's appeal against the constitutionality of Article 300.1 of the Criminal Code.
