The Criminal Court of Appeal of Armenia, under the chairmanship of Judge Armen Danielyan, denied the appeal filed by the Prosecutor General’s Office against the decision of the first instance court of general jurisdiction to select arrest as a pre-trial measure against Rafik Hayrapetyan, son of former president of the Football Federation of Armenia Ruben Hayrapetyan, as the Hayrapetyans’ attorney Amram Makinyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Touching upon the question of Ruben Hayrapetyan returning to Armenia and appearing to the body conducting proceedings, Makinyan said Ruben Hayrapetyan is still self-isolated and his life and maintenance of health are primary issues. Makinyan added that the body conducting proceedings is only working hard to bring Ruben Hayrapetyan back to Armenia and said the Investigative Committee knows where Ruben Hayrapetyan lives.

Ruben Hayrapetyan and his son, Rafik Hayrapetyan are charged with causing strong physical pain or strong mental suffering, depriving of liberty unlawfully and self-righteousness. Arrest has been selected as a pre-trial measure against Ruben Hayrapetyan, and a signature to not leave the country has been selected as a pre-trial measure against his son.

In 2019, four criminal cases were instituted under four articles of the Criminal Code of Armenia, including articles on official negligence that carelessly caused dire consequences, embezzlement in large amounts, falsification of documents by a group of persons and abuse of powers by officers of commercial or other organizations.
