President of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Arayik Haroutyunyan today received Human Rights Defender of Artsakh Artak Beglaryan, as reported the Central Information Department of the Office of the President of Artsakh.

President Haroutyunyan stated that he has become acquainted with the annual report on the activities that the Human Rights Defender carried out in 2019, as well as the state of protection of human rights and freedoms and attached importance to the role of the Human Rights Defender in the implementation of human-centered reforms in several major sectors of the country.

Beglaryan briefly presented certain recommendations embodied in the annual report and underlined the need for the government to develop and implement a strategy on human rights protection.

The head of state touched upon certain recommendations and expressed willingness to take specific actions to solve the identified issues. He also stressed that there will be a strict response to top officials who treat citizens and their subordinates unlawfully or disrespectfully.
