YEREVAN. – Within hours, the National Assembly (NA) adopted the constitutional amendments and, violating the Constitution, did not send it to the Constitutional Court for an opinion. Edmon Marukyan, leader of the opposition Bright Armenia Party (BAP) and head of its parliamentary faction, stated this in a conversation with journalists Wednesday.

"Besides, it made an amendment to the NA Rules of Procedure, whereby deprived the RA [Republic of Armenia] President of the right to sign the draft constitutional amendments," he added.

Marukyan stated that there is a claim that all this has to do with the examination of ex-President Robert Kocharyan's case in the Constitutional Court, which is scheduled for July 7. "Now we will work on the petition [of our ours], strengthen it, and as soon as the session on the case of the second president takes place and ends, our petition in connection with declaring unconstitutional will be submitted to the Constitutional Court. It's a matter of days."

And when asked whether this means that Bright Armenia will not join the parliamentary opposition Prosperous Armenia Party and will not add the two missing signatures, Marukyan answered: " Yes, you got it right. We will petition to the CC [Constitutional Court] after the examination of the [case of the] second president. Legally, it makes no difference when we petition.”
