YEREVAN. – I am not running for the post of the President of the Constitutional Court. Judge Vahe Grigoryan of the Constitutional Court of Armenia on Friday stated this in a conversation with journalists in front of the Constitutional Court.

Asked whether he considers that he has performed his duties as Constitutional Court judge in good faith, Grigoryan stated that he has not been able to fulfill his job responsibilities during the past year, as "The constitutionality of the composition of the Constitutional Court was seriously questioned." "I did not consider this composition constitutional, I considered that the Constitutional Court of Armenia has a significant gap in democratic legitimacy, and with that composition, it cannot be and deserves to be the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia," he added.

Grigoryan said he did not fulfill his responsibilities as Constitutional Court judge not through his own fault, but did not give up his salary as a judge, as it is his only means of subsistence. "(…) I don't think there was the necessary quorum in this court; there wasn’t, [but it] exists as of today. And if any member of the Constitutional Court had thought at the time that this was really a problem, disciplinary proceedings should have been initiated against me a long time ago," Vahe Grigoryan said.
