The Constitution of Armenia, the main guarantor of which is the Constitutional Court, has been under attack for the past two years. This is what lawyer Robert Hayrapetyan told reporters near the Constitutional Court today, talking about the changes taking place in the Constitutional Court.

“Laws are being disrespected and perverted in such a way that it will be very hard to change them in the future. In essence, the authorities realized that there is no point in trying to act within the scope of approximate laws and started taking actions through anarchy. In essence, the draft, which is referred to as constitutional amendment, completely attests to the fact that there is no state institution in Armenia, starting from the presidential institution, there is no Constitution, and all the norms of a legal and democratic state have been completely eliminated,” the lawyer said.

According to him, if factual circumstances are examined, the ruling party must not only be held liable for usurpation of power and overthrow of the constitutional order, but also may other articles that describe their actions. The lawyer added that the grounds under which the sitting members of the Constitutional Court must be dismissed are unlawful and unconstitutional and that the new judges of the Constitutional Court will be illegitimate since they will be appointed unlawfully.

Touching upon the future developments, he said one of the developments must be the decision of the Constitutional Court on accepting the application of the Prosperous Armenia Party and an independent MP for proceedings or rejecting the application.
