A Turkish court scheduled a trial on the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi on July 3, Al Jazeera reported referring to Turkish sources.

The journalist, known for his critical articles on Riyadh politics, has lived in the US since 2017, where he collaborated with The Washington Post.

He disappeared while visiting his country's consulate general in Istanbul on October 2, 2018. On October 20, Saudi authorities reported that Khashoggi was killed in a diplomatic mission building as a result of the conflict. The international community condemned this crime, urging Riyadh to conduct a transparent investigation, TASS reported.

On November 15, 2018, Saudi Arabia released the preliminary results of the investigation: 11 citizens of the kingdom were charged with involvement in the murder, five of them were facing the death penalty.

On March 25, the Istanbul prosecutor's office prepared a lawsuit against 18 people suspected of involvement in the journalist's murder. They are expected to face life imprisonment.
