German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas spoke about urgent need to improve Berlin-Washington relations, RIA Novosti reported.

According to his interview with dpa, transatlantic relations are extremely important, however, they no longer meet the requirements that both sides require.

He added that one should not assume that relations between the two states would improve if the current US President Donald Trump resigned.

This is not the first time Maas has spoken about the difficulties in Berlin-Washinton relations. Earlier this month, in an interview with BILD am Sonntag, he said the German-US relations are complex. His remarks came following the media reports about the US decision to withdraw US troops from Germany.
