Our approach is to be in a lockdown without declaring a lockdown because we saw that even though many European countries have officially declared lockdowns, it doesn’t mean that the anti-epidemic rules are observed 100%. This is what Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan stated during a briefing held after the session of the Commandant’s Office today, touching upon the question if it is necessary to tighten control further instead of making calls.

“Before tightening control, the government has to be certain that at least nearly 100% of citizens observe the rules effectively.

If the government declares a lockdown and maintains it on major streets, but not in yards and buildings, it will be ineffective. After all, the government can’t send police officers to oversee people on all stories of a particular building. We are calling on everyone to declare a lockdown for themselves so that the government doesn’t have to declare a lockdown by force,” the Prime Minister said.
