The situation regarding the spread of hate speech in Armenia will worsen over time, and this is due to not only the political situation, but also the fact that the people spreading hate speech on social networks get paid a lot of money for that. This is what information security expert Samvel Martirosyan said during an online discussion entitled “Communication Crisis: Hatred in the Media Space” today.

According to Martirosyan, amid the expected tightening of measures against the spread of hate speech in Armenia, media outlets have to filter content and understand that social networks are not television stations.

“We shouldn’t wait for the Armenian authorities to solve this problem because even the judiciary isn’t ready to show an objective approach to investigation of such cases. If media outlets say they lack resources, I can only say that those who offend others on social network have the resources, and those people will grow in number,” Martirosyan stated.
