Through operational intelligence measures, officers of the Department for the Fight against Illicit Circulation of Narcotics of the General Department of Criminal Police of Armenia obtained information according to which two young citizens of the city of Abovyan receive narcotics from abroad.
Officers of the Department for the Fight against Smuggling at the State Revenue Committee helped obtain information and found out that the young people had requested that a taxi driver receive the narcotics and bring them to Abovyan.
The taxi driver was in the focus of law-enforcement authorities. The man received the items in Yerevan and delivered them to Abovyan. After receiving the items, the young citizens were caught and apprehended. Police searched them and found masses similar to marijuana weighing a total of more than 100 grams which, as it was established, had been delivered from the US to Armenia via postal service. According to the expert’s conclusion, the items were marijuana in particularly large amounts. A criminal case has been instituted in relation to the incident, and the circumstances are being established through a preliminary investigation.
