The Brazilian Press Association announced its intention to sue President Jair Bolsonaro - who has tested positive for coronavirus - for putting reporters at risk of contracting COVID-19 during a briefing, Lenta.ru reported referring to the organization’s statement.

Bolsonaro told a briefing on Tuesday that he had tested positive for COVID-19, and although the president was in a mask, he was not observing the social distancing.

According to the association’s statement, the president violated the regime of self-isolation and put reporters at risk. Based on this, the association intends to file a lawsuit to the supreme court against the president as they accuse him of violating two criminal articles. Thus, he may face fines or imprisonment.

Brazil ranks second in the number of COVID-19 cases. Over 1.6 million cases were recorded in the country, with the death toll of 65 thousand.
