During an urgent session of the Security Council, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev blamed Armenia for escalation of the situation on the border, reports AzerTAc.

As expected, Aliyev failed to admit that Azerbaijan is to blame for the aggression and blamed Armenia for provocations. “Such incidents take place due to the hypocritical and insincere actions of Armenia’s leadership. On the one hand, Armenia addresses the international community and seeks assistance to strengthen the ceasefire on the line of contact, on the other hand, it opens fire at our villages and peaceful civilians. They want to attack Azerbaijan and seize our positions through military provocations,” Aliyev declared with the logic that only he understands and added the following “Azerbaijan will do everything possible to restore its territorial integrity.”

According to him, relevant calls have been made to international organizations, and the operative situation will allow the military officials of foreign states to be invited to this territory.

“Let them come and see with their own eyes who carried out the military provocation, what happened after the military provocation and who is responsible for escalating the situation. Our work is just, and Azerbaijan will not take one step back from its fundamental positions,” Aliyev said.

It is Azerbaijan that is obstructing implementation of the mechanisms for investigation of the incidents, meaning the representatives of foreign states will only see what the Azerbaijani authorities show them. However, what is noteworthy is the fact that recently Azerbaijani opposition media outlets were reporting the growth of social discontent and the repugnant work that the authorities are doing in the fight against the coronavirus. The border incident serves as a wonderful way for the Azerbaijani authorities to distract the society’s attention from domestic issues and move the ‘arrows’ towards the external adversary.
