During a press conference held after the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of EU member states on Monday, EU Minister for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said Ankara’s decision to convert the Hagia Sofia museum of Istanbul into a mosque will lead to division between religious communities and added that the EU Council condemns the decision and calls on reversing it, TASS reports.

“The Council of the European Union condemns Turkey’s decision to convert the Hagia Sofia back into a mosque. This decision will inevitably fuel mistrust, provoke renewed division between religious communities and undermine our efforts at dialogue and cooperation. There was a broad support to call on the Turkish authorities to urgently reconsider and reverse this decision,” Borrell declared.
