The European court in Luxembourg loses a court over Apple, BBC reported.

According to the judges, the European Commission mistakenly assumed that the American group illegally received tax benefits for its subsidiaries in Ireland. The court annulled the decision since the European Commission was unable to provide the necessary evidence that Apple has gained benefits.

The lawsuit against the EC decision was brought by the management of the company and the authorities in Dublin. The parties have the right to appeal the court decision.

"This case was not about how much tax we pay, but where we are required to pay it," Apple said in a statement. "We're proud to be the largest taxpayer in the world, as we know the important role tax payments play in society."
