Azerbaijan showed real aggression that is characteristic of radical Islamist states. This is what Lieutenant-General Norat Ter-Grigoryants told Armenian News-NEWS.am, adding that the tension on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border is the continuation of Turkey’s policy.
“This is backed by Turkey because even the country’s foreign minister talked about this. Turkey aspires to reinstate the Ottoman Empire, but only the way it wants. This is how they implement their policy. They seized Syrian lands, are fighting in Iraq and Libya, and Armenia is like a bone stuck in their throat. They stole lands from Armenians and killed 1.5 million Armenians, and now they have decided to start from Karabakh,” he said.
The Lieutenant-General recalled that Baku has already tried to solve the Karabakh issue by force, but Karabakh has succeeded in crushing the forces of the adversary which exceeded Karabakh in terms of quantity and weapons. However, Ter-Grigoryants stated that the enemy persistently continues to prepare for war by actively rearming its detachments and units.
Touching upon the positions of the Kremlin and the Collective Security Treaty Organization, Ter-Grigoryants clearly expressed his discontent with the behavior of Armenia’s allies in that military alliance. The army general is certain that in this situation, Armenia needs to take the path that North Korea took, that is, rely on its own forces and strengthen its army and economy.
Ter-Grigoryants had trouble saying whether the escalation can lead to large-scale military operations and war, but he did state that, in essence, the international community hasn’t responded to Aliyev’s statements that Yerevan is historically a part of Azerbaijan and that Baku will exert all efforts to have its lands returned. Moreover, as the army general stated, the international community even shut an eye on Azerbaijan’s aggression in 2016.
“Now Aliyev became convinced once again that the international community is indifferent towards the situation on the Armenia-Azerbajian border. He became convinced once again that the CSTO isn’t preparing to defend Armenia,” he said.
