YEREVAN. –As a result of the work of the last two years, it was obvious that during all their business trips, the MPs are able to correctly present all the emphases in the interests of Armenia, as well as to establish partnership relations that would allow at this time to reflect—through a rapid response—on Azerbaijan's aggression. Lilit Makunts, the leader of the majority My Step faction of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, mentioned this Monday during a meeting with journalists.

Referring to the anti-Armenian resolution passed in the US House of Representatives—and which states that the US Secretary of State together with the Secretary of Defense must submit a report on the status of internally displaced persons in Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and Azerbaijan, and which must contain information on the number of people who were deported from and killed in those countries’ illegally occupied territories by foreign forces ever since 1991—Makunts said: "Several countries were mentioned in the initial version [of the aforesaid resolution], and at the last moment, the name of Azerbaijan was also included in the resolution due to the Azerbaijani lobbying; I believe also in connection with the [recent] events in Tavush [Province in Armenia]. Of course, this includes emphases that are not in our best interests. It is a complicated resolution, (…) the House of Representatives has already adopted the resolution. Let's see how it plays out in the Senate."

Makunts also stressed that she heads the NA Armenian-American friendship group, which has rather limited powers to take any action. "But we are in touch with the staffs of individual Congress members; we are also in direct contact with some Congress members. Of course, we have presented to them our concerns related to certain wording, ideas. Our suggestion was whether there was any way to revise some of the wording [in this resolution]."
