YEREVAN. – I believe that by clearly assessing the weakness of their own strength, the Azerbaijani authorities are doing their best to involve Turkey in this conflict. Lilit Makunts, the leader of the majority My Step faction of the National Assembly of Armenia, mentioned this Monday during a meeting with journalists.

"I think Turkey will not take such a step, will not take a side, and I substantiate it with the following assumption: First, in case of becoming a side, when it comes to Azerbaijan's aggression against the borders of Armenia, it will be perceived in the context of the [Armenian] Genocide—not only in Armenia, but all over the world.

Second, when many countries around the world have recognized the Armenian Genocide, given that Turkey is involved as a side to the conflict in a number of regions, these actions of Turkey will simply not be perceived by many countries around the world.

"On the other hand, the main motive for Turkey's involvement is conditioned by Azerbaijan's false propaganda that the Armenian side is allegedly trying to encroach upon [natural] gas and oil pipelines," Makunts said.
