YEREVAN. – At Tuesday’s court session on the criminal case against second president Robert Kocharyan and several other former senior officials, defendant Yuri Khachaturov, former Secretary General of CSTO, asked the court for permission to leave Armenia for two days and to visit his parents' grave in Georgia (PHOTOS).

The respective motion was submitted by his lawyer Mihran Poghosyan, who noted that Georgia will open its borders with Armenia as of August 1, and they will find out in advance that if a two-week self-isolation rule shall be in force, Khachaturov will not leave.

The prosecution did not categorically object to this motion.

But the court denied the motion, arguing that in a situation caused by the coronavirus, it sees a risk that Khachaturov may not be able to return to Armenia in time, and therefore an issue of rescheduling the court hearing would arise.
