YEREVAN. – I was summoned to the NSS within the framework of an absurd case; I do not have any status. Artur Vanetsyan, former Director of the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia and chairman of the opposition Homeland Party, mentioned this in a conversation with journalists Friday after leaving the NSS building.

"They called [me] within the framework of the preparation of reports to give an explanation. I want to mention that I had no obligation to come, but out of respect for the institute, I have come and refused to give an explanation.

In fact, this case is about nothing. This is another fabricated case, pursuing political goals, which during the last 8 months the authorities have carried out any criminal prosecution against me in every possible way, with the aim of stopping my active political activity.

You know very well that none of the accusations against me have been confirmed. Both those and this 'accusation' will disappear," he said.

Referring to the specific case, Vanetsyan said: "One of our former employees, who, according to the NSS interpretation, had no right to be reinstated in that position, was reinstated in 2018. But they probably have problems reading and understanding the law; not the NSS employees or investigators, but the political leadership of the Republic of Armenia, as well as the current director of the NSS. If they had read the law clearly, they would have realized that there was no violation of the law.”
