France made it mandatory to wear masks outdoors in some cities, including Lille, Tours, and Biarritz.

The restrictions imposed by the authorities amid the pandemic have so far only affected the central streets, which are popular with tourists and locals. Violators could face a € 135 fine, RFI reported.

The decision on whether to make the wearing of masks on the street compulsory in France is made by the local authorities. According to the country's health minister Olivier Veran, police prefects can impose restrictions based on data on the spread of the pandemic in individual cities and regions.
