One person has been apprehended along the lines of the murder case that caused riot in densely-Armenian populated Akhalkalaki town of Georgia.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, A.G. (born in 1983) was apprehended on charges of premeditated murder, and illegal acquisition and possession of a firearm.

To note, 7-15 years of imprisonment is envisaged for this crime.

"The investigation revealed that as a result of mutual disagreements, the accused, A.G., inflicted a fatal gunshot wound to V.M. (born in 1993), who died on the way to the hospital," the respective statement reads.

Earlier it was reported that the riots in Akhalkalaki started on Saturday. According to media reports, they were preceded by a shooting and the murder of a 27-year-old resident of Kulakam village.

Subsequently, about two dozen people set fire to a hotel in downtown Akhalkalaki, as well as to four houses. It is supposed that one of the houses belongs to the owner of this hotel, and the others—to his relatives.

The rioters were very aggressive, and some of them had clubs.

Several cars were damaged.

As a result of the clashes, at least one person was injured and taken to a city hospital.

The special service and special equipment, as well as the patrol police are mobilized in Akhalkalaki.
