YEREVAN. – The investigation of the criminal case against the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan and the other former officials is accompanied by all kinds of violations from the very beginning. Aram Vardevanyan, one of Kocharyan’s lawyers, on Tuesday stated this in a conversation with journalists.

The lawyer stressed that the investigation was to blame for the delay in the respective court hearing, as it sent 80 materials of the case to court; moreover, the investigator himself admits that only accusatory materials were selected. Vardevanyan added that the lawyers of this case were not allowed to get familiarized with the rest of the materials.

As for the allegations of delaying the case, the lawyer reminded that back in March and April, the defense had no information at all about the whereabouts of the presiding judge and the reasons for the rescheduling of the court hearings. "If the issue at hand is that someone needs ‘lightning solutions,’ then there is no such thing in the world. The sheer volume of the case requires a lot of time. The case is accompanied by various types of violations from the very beginning, "Aram Vardevanyan stressed.
