Slovenia has provided protection against authoritarian threats, including China's attempts to control people and information, Reuters reported referring to the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's statement.
His remarks came in Slovenia after the signing ceremony of the declaration on the development of a secure 5G network.
“The tide is turning against the Chinese Communist Party in its efforts to restrict freedom for all of us,” Pompeo said.
Telekom Slovenia started rolling out its 5G network last month and is expected to have a third of the country covered by 5G by the end of the year.
Pompeo said that another important topic of talks with Slovenian officials will be ensuring energy security by reducing the country's dependence on Russia.
“We spoke about the enormous potential of next generation nuclear technology to deliver clean, reliable diversified energy that will help ensure political independence and economic prosperity for Slovenia and the entire region,” he said.
