Criminal intelligence officers of the Police of Armenia received information that months ago, a female citizen of the city of Masis had sold her one-year-old son. The Police’s news service reports that on August 14, the authenticity of the information was verified through the joint actions of the general and regional departments of the Criminal Police, and the 35-year-old woman was summoned to the police department.

It turned out that the woman had reached an agreement with spouses living in Nubarashen District of Yerevan to sell the boy for AMD 500,000, went to the territorial division for registration of civil status acts in Masis on May 5, after which a man from Yerevan acknowledged the child’s paternity, and a new birth certificate was issued. After a few days, the boy’s biological mother received AMD 200,000 from the AMD 500,000 that had been agreed upon, and later, the spouses paid another AMD 100,000 and nothing more.

A criminal case has been instituted in relation to the case.
