YEREVAN. – Hraparak daily of Armenia writes: The circle is being tightened around Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan, who is on vacation.

Although it was written several times that he had written a letter of resignation—which for some reason was not accepted, the coronavirus epidemic made it completely obvious that the mayor was not in his place. Our sources in the [Yerevan] Municipality say that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is also very dissatisfied with him now.

And there are persistent rumors that Marutyan may leave the post. And since his term of office is not over yet and there still are 3 years left until the Yerevan [mayoral] elections, according to the law, the majority faction of the [Yerevan] Council of the Elders shall elect a mayor from among itself.
