Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan today chaired a consultation devoted to the prospects for paving streets in rural communities, as reported the press service of the Government of Armenia.

At the outset, Pashinyan said the following: “Dear colleagues, we have gathered to discuss the government’s future actions to build inter-community and community roads. This particularly concerns the shaping of an environment in rural communities, and we know that, unfortunately, rural communities mainly lack roads. Our objective is to make sure the environment in rural communities becomes modern. There are villages where asphalting is the solution, and there are villages where asphalting won’t help repair roads. We need to consider the alternatives in order to have normal streets in villages.” Pashinyan stated that this discussion comes after his recent visit to Armenia’s provinces.

Afterwards, the government considered the potential models for repairing roads in rural communities. Among the presented proposals, Pashinyan said what was interesting was the development of solutions through the effective application of local raw material, that is, stones. The possible options for construction of community and inter-community roads were considered, starting from design and ending with implementation. The government also considered the possibility of implementing a pilot project in one of the villages rich in resources of local raw material which will allow to give an evaluation of the effectiveness and appropriateness.

The Prime Minister assigned to submit a draft project developed based on a specific example by the end of next week.
