YEREVAN. – This year, an unprecedented number of cadets have been admitted to the military education institutions in Armenia. Deputy defense minister Gabriel Balayan stated this at a press conference on Tuesday.

Without giving figures, the official stated that the appeal of military service is growing in Armenia.

He added that an unprecedented number of cadets were admitted to the Monte Melkonian Military College as well, and girls were admitted for the first time.

"As it is known, the conscription ended yesterday, and it is also an unprecedented high indicator as compared to recent years, especially in the conscription-resource comparison; this is a result of the current policy. Additional reforms are planned to increase the appeal of military service and improve social conditions [in Armenia]," Balayan added.
