Through operational intelligence measures taken by officers of the Department for Fight against Crimes against Persons and Property of the General Department of the Criminal Police of Armenia, information was obtained according to which two citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran, with the pretext of transporting to European countries, tricked and gathered nearly 50 citizens of Iran and transported them from Iran to Armenia where they were greeted by the other members of the group of criminals who are citizens of Armenia.

To instill confidence in the 50 citizens, the group of criminals presented themselves as law-enforcement officers and diplomats. They required and received, according to preliminary data, nearly $300,000 to transport the persons having moved to Armenia to destination countries. Afterwards, some citizens of Iran were transported to Turkey and Georgia and promised that they would be sent to European countries through the diplomatic representations in those countries. Failing to fulfill their promise, they transported the citizens of Iran to Armenia again, took their passports and have been postponing their departure with different excuses to this day.

Armenian police officers identified some of the citizens of Iran, who were summoned to the central police station and delivered reports.

Police have also found the members of the group of criminals who are detained. Some of the passports have been found, a criminal case has been launched, and preliminary investigation is underway.
