On the occasion of Independence Day, President of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Arayik Haroutyunyan today hosted a solemn award ceremony during which he granted high state awards to servicemen of the Defense Army, freedom fighters, officers of the National Security Service, Police and State Service for Emergency Situations, as well as representatives of the fields of healthcare, education and science.

A group of people were conferred honorary titles of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic for their remarkable contributions to science, education and healthcare.

The military rank of major-general was conferred upon servicemen Karen Shakaryan, Karen Arstamyan and Samvel Poghosyan and First Deputy Director of the National Security Service Arayik Grigoryan, and the class rank of third-class state advisor of justice was conferred upon Deputies of the Prosecutor General of Artsakh Eric Verdiyan and Sasun Gabrielyan.

President Haroutyunyan congratulated the recipients and stated that September 2nd is a historic day and a day of pan-national pride, a day of restoration of the once violated rights of the Armenians of Artsakh and a day symbolizing the dignified present and future.

Talking about the future actions, Haroutyunyan stressed that it is necessary to protect statehood and continue to strengthen and develop it and added that human resources are the most important precondition for this.

Among the attendees were leader of the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Holy Apostolic Church, Archbishop Pargev Martirosyan and top officials.
