If Armenia wants to develop, it has to be competitive, and first and foremost in the Russian market. This is what second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan said in an interview with RBK when asked if Armenia can develop its economy independently.

“I don’t think there is any country that can develop independently in a global world. It can exist, but not develop or feel secure. Overall, Armenia’s relations with Russia are a separate topic, and I think they could be discussed in a broader context. Can Armenia be self-sufficient in this market? Of course not. It’s impossible. If Armenia wants to develop, it has to be competitive, and first and foremost in the Russian market. It’s harder in the European market. I’ve been through all that and know that it’s difficult,” Kocharyan stated.
