Deputy Minister of Justice of Armenia Rafik Grigoryan told Armenian News-NEWS.am that if the Parliament of Armenia adopts the package of bills on making amendments and supplements to the Law on Ensuring Sanitary-Epidemiological Safety of the Population of Armenia” and related laws, there won’t be restrictions on the holding of elections in the country.

Grigoryan particularly stated that, in accordance with the law, elections are only banned during a state of emergency.

Asked what will happen if the sanitary-epidemiological situation worsens and if there is a sharp rise in the number of people infected with COVID-19, the deputy minister reiterated the fact that elections can’t be canceled in any case since there is some mitigation in the case of lockdown, but there are no such mechanisms during a state of emergency.
