Armenian News - NEWS.am presents a daily digest of Armenia-related top news as of 17.09.2020:

  • As of 11 am on Thursday, 295 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in Armenia, and the total number of these cases has reached 46,671 in the country.

Also, two more deaths from COVID-19 were registered, making the respective total 925 cases.

The number of people who have recovered is 42,231, and the number of people currently being treated is 3,232.

And 4,319 COVID-19 tests were conducted in Armenia over the past one day, while 252,158 such tests have been performed to date.

  • Wednesday at around 11:10 contractual serviceman of the Armed Forces of Armenia Hovhannes Tamrazyan received firearm and fragmentary injuries on the left hand, chest, face, and neck after receiving a gunshot fired by Azerbaijan at the military post of N military unit of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia.

Tamrazyan died on the way to the military hospital, as reported the Investigative Committee of Armenia.

The UAE migration service has returned to the previous form of accepting documents for obtaining visas.

No clarifications were provided regarding the tightening and abolition of the entry visa requirement.

As a result of the actions carried out in the criminal case under investigation by the Investigative Committee of Armenia, a number of circumstances were revealed with respect to apparent misuse committed by Aram Simonyan.

According to the information obtained during the investigation, Simonyan—in his capacity as YSU Rector—had misused a particularly large amount of money—totaling 34,362,581 drams—from the funds of the Yerevan State University Foundation, transferring it—by bank transfer—to the director of a company.

A signature bond not to leave Armenia has been chosen as a pretrial measure against him.

The Russian government has refuted news about Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin’s visit to Armenia, as reported on Telegram’s channel, according to RIA Novosti.

Earlier, mass media had disseminated information according to which the Prime Minister was going to visit Armenia next week.
