The "historic" ruling of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on Azerbaijan's anti-Armenian policy is now final and unbreakable. Siranush Sahakyan, the representative of the petitioners’ interests at the ECHR, wrote about this on Facebook.

“On May 26, 2020, the European Court of Human Rights issued its verdict in the case of Makuchyan and Minasyan v. Azerbaijan and Hungary, in which Azerbaijan was found accountable for the release and glorification of the criminal [Ramil Safarov], who brutally killed Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan and attempted to assassinate another Armenian officer, Hayk Makuchyan.

On October 12 of this year, the European Court, considering the possibility of the [ECHR] Grand Chamber’s  review of this judgment, ruled it out, underscoring the importance of the entry into force of the provisions of the judgment and their implementation. This means that the decision of the European Court made against Azerbaijan on May 26, 2020 gained legal force.

The execution of the verdict will demand that Azerbaijan punish its own murderer and stop its racist policy towards Armenians.

The existence of an international judicial act with such content is a major legal guarantee ensuring the protection of Armenians from Azerbaijani aggression, and which, in fact, also rules out any solution that calls into question the safety of the people of Artsakh [(Nagorno-Karabakh)]," Sahakyan added in particular.
