The prevention of war crimes by Azerbaijan and Turkey should first of all include sanctions on these two countries, Artsakh Ombudsman Artak Beglaryan told a briefing.

According to him, there are many reasons to believe that mass crimes have been and are being committed against the civilian population and the military.

“The second step should be the visit of representatives of the human rights community, as well as representatives of international organizations, fact-finding missions to Artsakh so that they can see what exactly is happening on the ground, submit objective reports to the international community. And thirdly, the international community must recognize the independence of Artsakh and our right to self-determination, which we have realized long ago. This can become an additional deterrent against further violations of the law,” Beglaryan noted.
