President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian, who is on a working visit to Brussels, met with President of the European Council Charles Michel today.

Sarkissian thoroughly touched upon the large-scale military aggression that Azerbaijan unleashed against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) on September 27 and Turkey’s involvement and military and political support.

“On September 27, Azerbaijan decided to renounce the peaceful negotiations and unleash a war, and Turkey provides full political, diplomatic and military support,” Sarkissian stated.

“The violence in Nagorno-Karabakh must stop,” Michel said and asked about the regional developments in the context of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. President Sarkissian thoroughly presented the situation and stated that Turkey’s policy in the region is destabilizing and poses a serious threat to stability and security in the region.

The interlocutors expressed their deep concern over the ongoing hostilities which may lead to a big humanitarian disaster. Michel said it is necessary to respect the ceasefire and return to the negotiating table without preconditions.

President Sarkissian said it is very important for international partners to have a complete understanding of the essence of the conflict and make clear calls to end the war. “Ceasefire is an absolute necessity, and Turkey must step out of this conflict,” Sarkissian emphasized.
