US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo intends to discuss the possibilities of de-escalation of the situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone with the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan on October 23 in Washington DC.

Asked what he expects from the meetings with the foreign ministers and whether the ceasefire regime is one of the options, Pompeo stated the following: “Your first question is what I would like to achieve by meeting with the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan. You talked about what the US will undertake for another ceasefire and hinted that the previous ceasefire agreements weren’t implemented.”

According to Pompeo, the situation is complicated. “This is a complicated diplomatic situation. The US, as well as almost all European countries, see the ceasefire as the way out of the situation. Third countries must stay away from the conflict, not pour oil into the fire and not supply weapons. Only after that will it be possible to achieve a diplomatic solution that will be acceptable for everyone. This is what I will discuss with the ministers,” Pompeo said.
