On October 21, 2020, the Cooperation Council of CIS countries in the education sector held its subsequent session during which the Council unanimously decided that the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia will assume chairmanship of the Council, and Deputy Minister Artur Martirosyan was elected chairman, as reported the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia.

The activities carried out within the scope of cooperation of CIS countries in the education sector were presented and discussed during the session. Martirosyan stated that education is the key economic resource of any country and that interstate cooperation in this sector contributes to the economic development of countries.

In 2024, Armenia will host the 8th Congress of CIS Teachers and Workers of Education.
