YEREVAN. – In recent days, Azerbaijan has continuously shelled, fired with artillery, or bombed—with aviation bombs—many settlements in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), mainly regularly and heavily targeting the towns of Martuni, Martakert and nearby settlements, and some settlements in Hadrut Region were shelled and fired at with artillery on a regular basis. Artsakh Human Rights Defender (ombudsman) Artak Beglaryan stated about this at a press conference on Saturday.

"[Capital] Stepanakert is also fired upon at certain intervals. You are aware of what happened last night. According to our analysis, they used Polonez missiles and targeted exclusively civilian facilities—including residential areas, infrastructure, and industrial facilities. Residential houses, a large-diameter [natural] gas pipeline, some industrial facilities were damaged.

It is clear that this attack was deliberate, targeted, and again is fully qualified as a war crime under the Geneva Conventions. Fortunately, no casualties, wounded were reported, but there was a lot of material damage," Beglaryan said.

"The cities of Martuni, Martakert also are targeted on a regular basis. Again, material damage is mainly reported, as people are cautious, are mostly in shelters. That’s why there is no trend for the number of civilian casualties and injuries to increase," he added.
