If major countries like Russia, the US and France recognize Artsakh’s (Nagorno-Karabakh) independence, this will be a major turning point in the negotiation process because Azerbaijan won’t continue with its maximalist approaches. This is what former Prime Minister of Armenia Aram Z. Sargsyan told reporters at Yerablur Military Pantheon today.

“Those countries’ recognition will cause a problem because it will turn out that Azerbaijan wants to seize the capital of a recognized country. In this sense, Azerbaijan will agree to mutual concessions,” he said.

Talking about US President Donald Trump, Sargsyan noted that Trump might or might not be elected during the presidential elections on November 3. “Trump is unpredictable. He recognized Jerusalem as the capital of the Jews without taking into consideration the Muslims of the world. He said the Golan Heights have belonged to the Jews for 30 years and is theirs now. I don’t rule out Trump’s recognition of Artsakh’s independence within the scope of his relations with Putin and Macron. After that, we’ll see what Putin and Macron will do. It would be great, if Trump recognized Artsakh’s independence. In any case, we need to have hope," he said.
