US President-elect Joe Biden's history with Turkish President Reccep Tayyip Erdogan gives mixed indicators of how he might deal with Ankara's increasingly authoritarian leader, journalist Burak Bekdil wrote in his article published in Israel Hayom newspaper.

According to the author, one of these mixed indicators is the absolute and firm support of Turkey, expressed by Biden, and the other is his calls to Erdogan for the overthrow of the Turkish opposition.

“But earlier dealings between Biden and Erdogan suggest that Biden's anti-Erdogan rhetoric may fade, and a good working relationship could conceivably develop between the new president of the cradle of democracy and the Islamist wannabe sultan,” Bekdil noted.

At the same time, the analyst listed a number of issues that could create problems between the leaders of the two countries.

The closer ties between Washington and the Syrian Kurds, Biden's non-recognition of the Turkish occupation of Northern Cyprus and his support of the Greek-American community, and Biden's pledge to recognize the 1915 Armenian Genocide if elected are just some of the issues that have arisen between them, says the author of the article.
