The Council of the National Assembly of Armenia has started its session to consider to apply to the Constitutional Court to strip leader of Prosperous Armenia Party Gagik Tsarukyan of his parliamentary mandate. Gagik Tsarukyan isn’t attending the session, but several deputies of the Prosperous Armenia faction of the National Assembly and Tsarukyan’s attorney Emin Khachatryan are attending the session.

The session was convened on November 16, but the issue wasn’t considered due to Tsarukyan’s absence. The law on rules of procedure of the National Assembly lays down that an MP shall be present during the Council’s session, and the issue can be considered without the MP during the second session.

The Council of the National Assembly intends to apply to the Constitutional Court to terminate the powers of Gagik Tsarukyan, taking as a basis Article 95 of the Constitution which prohibits a deputy from being involved in entrepreneurial activities and hold a position within commercial organizations.

Taking into consideration the authorities’ moods, it is clear that the Council will adopt the decision on stripping Tsarukyan of his parliamentary mandate and forward the decision to the Constitutional Court today.
