YEREVAN. – We are dealing absolutely and unequivocally with political persecution. Iveta Tonoyan, a member of the opposition Prosperous Armenia parliamentary faction, said this Thursday during a briefing in the National Assembly, referring to the process of stripping Prosperous Armenia Party leader, MP, and business tycoon Gagik Tsarukyan of his parliamentary mandate.

"Specifically, it is personal revenge by [PM] Nikol Pashinyan upon Gagik Tsarukyan, and this only falls within the framework of that logic. In the case of Gagik Tsarukyan, being deprived of the parliamentary mandate does not mean anything; it is the representatives of the halls of power who consider only the mandate as the goal, sanctity of their life and attach importance to it. We are just dealing with timid, vindictive, cowardly people who are trying to get revenge in this way," she said.

According to Tonoyan, PM Pashinyan should resign and leave as soon as possible, there is no alternative, and the opposition will continue to do what it is doing to this day. "The fact that the authorities are terrified of the processes that are taking place is evidenced by the issue being debated on in the parliament today, which the authorities are trying to defend with their chest and not allow the state of martial law from being abolished, and they cannot provide any articulate explanation as to why the state of martial law must continue [in Armenia]," she said.
