YEREVAN. – Like other thoughts, they try to present to the public in other shades the prime minister's opinion on the return of the captives. Nazeli Baghdasaryan, an MP of the ruling My Step bloc of Armenia, said this during Thursday’s traditional briefings in the National Assembly.

According to her, there have never been so many captives and detainees from the Armenian side. "It is logical that in this case it was not about the number of captives, but about the duration of their repatriation process; this is exactly what the prime minister wanted to emphasize in his speech yesterday. Yes, indeed, we have never had so many captives return home [from Azerbaijan]," Baghdasaryan added.

She noted that as a result of certain political arrangements and at the expense of the legal platform, mechanisms have been created about which nothing has been published yet. Nevertheless, the MP assured that the consistent process of returning the POWs continues.

To note, speaking from the rostrum of the parliament on Wednesday, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that in the last few years, as many number of captives had never been returned to Armenia as during his rule. According to him, there have been captives from Armenia in Azerbaijan all these years, but for reasons incomprehensible to him, this issue had never been a topic of discussion in the National Assembly by the parliamentary opposition. "Negotiations were held with Azerbaijan in various formats; at that time there were [Armenian] captives in its territory. But why did no one [in Armenia] demand the resignation of the [country’s] authorities [then]?" Pashinyan stated and asked.
