Baku has sent a petition to Moscow with the request for legal aid with regard to the case of the downed Mi-24 helicopter, the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan told RIA Novosti.

The press service also reported that intensive investigative and operational measures are being taken under this criminal case and that adoption of a lawful decision on the mentioned criminal case will be ensured after the petition is considered.

On November 9, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan had downed a Mi-24 helicopter within the airspace of Armenia and beyond the zone of hostilities. As a result, two members of the personnel died, while another was evacuated with injuries of medium gravity. Baku admitted that it had ‘accidentally’ struck down the Russian helicopter, apologized and expressed willingness to pay Russia the amount of compensation. The Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan has launched a criminal case under the article of ‘carless attitude towards service’.
