Republican Senators have asked Democrats to postpone the start of the impeachment process of former President Donald Trump until mid-February to give him time to prepare to defend himself against charges of incitement to insurrection, Voice of America reported.

On Thursday afternoon, the House of Representatives may already submit to the Senate the article of impeachment of the ex-president, approved by the majority of legislators' votes last week.

Senate Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell asked Democrats to postpone the submission of the clause of impeachment until January 28 and give Trump two weeks to prepare a defense. Senate Majority Leader, Democrat Chuck Schumer is currently considering McConnell's proposal, his spokesman said Thursday night.

Trump has already become the only president in US history to be impeached twice in the House of Representatives, and the upcoming impeachment trial in the Senate will be a one-of-a-kind process to take place after the president leaves office.
